Filling the holes with Sticks

The last thing to do was to fill the holes with the wooden sticks to make the piece complete

the sticks are building the image of the trees and they are going trough the wooden plate/structure ( water of the lake) and the trees are not ending in the water. They are ending at the bottom of the lake, which shown that the water dont stop the trees from going out.

Finishing the piece with some paint/ shining

After making all the holes into the piece, it was time for some really nice oiling and finishing of the wood
Because of the line and niche.. it was a really nice outerline.
The whole piece was now shining and in a better state.

he shine has to show the water and transculent of the piece

Making holes into the wooden structure

After finishing the laser cut for the structure, I made holes in 2 different sizes for the piece.
1 size for the 5mm thick wooden sticks, and the others for the 1,5 mm Sate wooden sticks.

The place of the holes was not really Random, but more in groups and families.
The places of the big and thick wooden sticks is in the middle, because in reality all the thick trees also in the centre of the jungle and lake.

the thinner wooden sticks are in at the ends of the piece.

week 3/4

I went to laser the whole structure out of the wood plate.
It was really hard to make this piece on a Autocad file and actually laser print it correctly.

I made an extra little crvce/ niche in the wood . SO instead of 1 line i made 2. The first one was to cut the wood and make it a nice structure, and the second was to crazy the outerlines and make it a special finish.

week 2 Finding out the real silhouette of the lake

I want on the internet to find out the real size and silhouette of the lake
I used Google Maps to copy the structure of the lake/water and looked for a program to make an pdf file to Print/Laser this structure out.

When i found out i could use Autocad for this, i made the structure as big as an A1 paper.

I wanted to make a wood structure of the lake with the trees as wood sticks.

First week, Analyzing the Feeling and Space of Childhood

The first week we had to come up with a space from your youth.
It had to be a space that was really special to you, or still is.
The space needed to make a inpact on you, and you needed to find images of this place/space.

I Came up with the Brokopondo River in Surinam.
When I was young, I went there for the first time.
Brokopondo is a river / water that used to be forest and jungle.
People lived there, but were moved from there because the whole place had a new goal.
The Brokopondo jungle was filled with water and is now called "Stuwmeer' , this was to get energy from the falling water.
The energy was used by a very big company and factory calles Rosebell. This is a Canadian Company that is winning Bauxiet ( for Aluminium) and Gold. Surinam is on the 17th place of most wealthy countries in the world, with his very worthfullb consumable ground raw stocking.
The rest of the energy goes to the city for electricity.

The whole forest was under water and all the animals and people had to leave.
Most of the trees are still in the water but they are all dead.
The trees and wood dont taint because there is no oxigen in the water. So that made all the trees still standing up.
This is from the land a remark of the waters.

When you are in this Big Lake and far from the land, you cant see the land because of all the trees.
This makes the open space a very closed space.

I wanted to make this image and space in my sculpture.
